TDG - The Independent Advantage

The Distribution Group (TDG) is a purchasing cooperative in the sewer, water and drainage (waterworks) industry. For more than 27 years, we have worked to strengthen relationships and business partnerships between waterworks vendors and independent distributors. We currently have 30 Member companies working with over 75 Vendor Partners in the United States and Canada. Meet our TDG Members and where they do business.

TDG began in 1996 by a group of independent distributors. Our founding Members were Atlas Utility Supply Company, Dana Kepner Company, Inc., Everett J. Prescott, Inc., Hayes Pipe Supply, Inc., Illinois Meter, Inc. / IMCO Utility Supply, Northern Waterworks Supply, Industrial International, Inc., Utility Supply Company, Inc., and WR White Company. By purchasing collectively through TDG, independent distributors are able to maintain their independent identities and stand strong in this ever changing industry.

TDG is proud to be known as "The Independent Advantage" in the marketplace.

What We Do

The Distribution Group (TDG) establishes marketing strategies between manufacturers and our independent TDG Members that enhance the collective financial well-being and integrity of both.

Our objectives are to do the following:

  • Enhance relationships between independent distributors and manufacturing Vendor Partners.
  • Promote sales through our Members, as opposed to direct sales.
  • Educate manufacturers on the value gained by working through qualified distributors.
  • Recruit quality companies within the industry to become Members.
  • Seek out and recruit quality manufacturers and vendors for partnering.
  • Provide forums where Members can lawfully exchange information of common interest and benefit.
  • Encourage free and open competition among Members.
  • Collect and distribute information to our Members and relevant to our industry.

A Note from the Chairman

As chair of the board of directors for The Distribution Group (TDG), I am very proud to represent this growing water works organization. While many of our competitors are being acquired by large, multinational firms, TDG remains viable, vibrant, and enduring. We are drawn together by our common belief in the worth and importance of privately owned, independent distributors to the well-being of the water works industry.

All member companies are owners of TDG. We have worked very hard to make decisions together—decisions that are ultimately beneficial to all, regardless of individual company size, market place or location. Our mutually beneficial relationship with each other, as shareholders and with our Vendor Partners is paramount to our continued success. would like to thank all of our Vendor Partners and shareholders for the contribution you make to TDG and for the support you give this endeavor. I look forward to our continued opportunities and growth.

Jenks Hayes
Chairman of the Board
